Pallet Runner®

How Does it Work?

The Pallet Runner® Carts can be placed or moved into any lane by means of a fork lift. Once the Cart has been placed into the appropriate lane, the operator uses a radio transmitter to instruct the Cart to perform the function given. The operator may drive away to retrieve or deliver another pallet while the Pallet Runner® works on its own.

Pallet Runner® is designed to make your facility more productive and efficient. Pallet Runner® has a dedicated team of designers and engineers to ensure a smooth installation.

Dock to Stock

Dock to stock distance is shortened drastically, improving fork lift productivity and truck turn‑around. Since only one (LIFO) or two (FIFO) aisles are needed, they can be lined up directly with the dock.

First-in First-out (FIFO)

The Pallet Runner® Cart is used to load pallets from one end of the storage system and retrieved from the other end of the system to create a FIFO environment.

Last-in First-out (LIFO)

Pallets are loaded into the system using the Pallet Runner® from main aisles. This allows storage systems to be much deeper pallet positions than other high density systems. This creates the shortest distance possible from loading dock to the system creating a high rate of lift truck productivity; the Pallet Runner® cart either retrieves or puts the pallet in position freeing the operator to perform another task.

Case Picking

The Pallet Runner® Cart can be used in conjunction with other storage systems including Case Pick environments such as Pallet Flow. High density storage is achieved in the upper levels while case picking occurs in corridors through the system.

80 - 20 Rule

The Pallet Runner® storage system works in conjunction with a picking system maintaining the 80 - 20 Rule; whereby 20% of your sku’s represent 80% of your volume, and 80% of your sku’s represent 20% of your volume. The lower portion, or 20% of skus, of the system utilizes a pallet flow (roller) system for continual pallet loading and retrieval. The upper portion of the system utilizes the Pallet Runner® system for the 80% of your skus.

1) Q - How many batteries are in the cart?
A- Four batteries – in two cassettes - are required to run the cart.

2) Q- How long does one set of batteries stay charged?
A- Under typical conditions a set of batteries will operate the Pallet Runner™ cart for 8 – 10 hours.

3) How do you change the batteries? How long should this take?
A- Batteries are simply changed by lifting the lid, removing spent batteries and replacing with charged batteries; which should take approximately five (5) minutes. The actual time to charge the batteries is three (3) hours.

4) Are tools required to change the batteries?

5) What happens if the cart stops in middle of the lane and we are not able to communicate with it?
A- The cart is programmed to sense problems during the transportation of a pallet, including low battery power to the cart, broken pallets, obstructions in the lane; in fact, anything inhibiting forward movement of the cart. In this mode, the cart is programmed to drop the pallet at the point of concern and return to the home position.

6) What happens if the cart does not return to the home position?
A- In the unlikely invent that the cart does not return to the home position, Konstant can supply a retrieval cart, which will “rescue” the Pallet Runner™.

7) Can Pallet Runner® be incorporated into my current W.M.S.?
A- Pallet Runner® can be incorporated into most Warehouse Management Systems.

8) Does the Pallet Runner® cart require regular maintenance?
A- Yes, like most motor powered pieces of equipment, regular maintenance is required.

9) Who do I get to do this maintenance?
A- A Pallet Runner® representative will be able to suggest possible service providers. This may include your current lift truck service provider, in house maintenance department or, in some cases, a Pallet Runner® Service Representative.

10) Is training provided to my operators and service technicians?
A- Yes, full operation training as well as service instruction is provided by a trained product representative.

11) How much per pallet location
A – The cost per pallet location depends on a number of different factors – please contact us via the contact page for an accurate quotation.

11) What is the speed of the cart?
A – Loaded, the cart travels 180 ft (54.8m) per minute; unloaded, the cart will travel 200 ft (60.9m) per minute.

12) How many pallet moves per hour?
A – On average the Pallet Runner® system will move 30 – 40 pallets per hour.

13) What is the temperature rating for the cart in a freezer?
A – The Pallet Runner™ will work in conditions to -10F Fahrenheit (-23Celsius)

14) How do you determine the level heights and length of a system?
A – The system layout is based up on many factors; please contact us using the contact

15) What is the height between levels? (Rail height plus lift off height)
A – Typically between levels is 16 inches (40.64cm) plus the height of the pallet.

16) What is the maximum weight the Pallet Runner® Cart can lift?
A – Our standard Pallet Runner® cart has a weight capacity of 3,000 lbs. (1,360kg).

17) How many Pallet Runner® carts do I need for my system?
A – Each system will be different based on system throughput and other specific system conditions. However, a good ratio is to use is one Pallet Runner® cart to 1,500 pallets.
